BASS ROCK

The weather has certainly turned more spring like now and the Firth of Forth looked Glorious on Saturday morning. I had been invited onto Derek Borthwicks RIB along with Gordon Mackie of GM Diving. We Headed out to the Bass Rock which looked magnificent surrounded by its crown of Gannets all busily preparing nests for this years chicks. We then set off to look for the wrecks of the H.M.S. LUDLOW and the BULL but with no success on this occasion. Turning back towards Dunbar the run in was interesting as the fickle winds had freshened from the North East making the Forth fairly bumpy. Anyway Thanks to Derek for an enjoyable day out and a great dive on the Bass Rock Wall. Here are a few pics of the day. Dont worry the Lobster is safe under his rock.

Sorry re the lack of post's recently. This is mainly due to the weather which has been fairly severe here. Needless to say Ive not been diving. however the clocks have now gone forward so hopefully some nice dives will appear here soon.

LOMO MASK'S

In this issue I continue my recent theme of bringing to your attention, great high quality products that are sold at low, reasonable prices.

Lomo are a Glasgow based firm Specialising in water sports gear and wetsuits. They have been around for a few years now and I have reviewed a few of their products. In fact it would be safe to say the produce my favourite piece of kit! My bright yellow 7mm dive hood which will keep me warm right through the winter. They have now added a range of mask’s to their range of dive kit. There is a range of around 8 masks starting at a £18 price tag and this is for a mask with a high quality silicone skirt, supplied in a nice strong mask box! The vast majority of masks are priced around £20 with only 1 the Alumino Mask topping £32. Top of the range and less than half the price of similar mask’s from the big name producers.

I was sent over 2 masks to try out here is how I found them.-

1) The black mask –

NAME:- TECHNO

PRICE:- £25

I was drawn to this mask because of its black silicone skirt; I prefer this when working with the camera as it reduces all those reflections in shallow water. This one’s frame has an interesting design and it certainly fitted my face well, the skirt made a great seal. Buckles and straps are fairly standard and are easy to use.

2) The clear mask-

NAME:- NITRO

PRICE:- £23

This one came with a clear skirt and it bore a striking resemblance to my Cressi Sub Matrix Mask. The feel of the silicone skirt was very similar. In fact the only clear difference was that I paid twice as much for the matrix. Once again the straps and buckles are standard and easy to use.

Choosing a dive mask is a matter of personal choice as everybody’s face is different. All I can say is the two above masks fitted my face like limpet mines and the nose pockets comfortably encased my nose.

If you are in the market for a new mask I would recommend you take a look at LOMO’s website as the masks are all on clear display there, or if you are based in Glasgow pop in and see the guy’s.

SUPERB U12 FROM EYEMOUTH

Hi All Sorry about the delay in posting something new, there have been 2 reasons for this; mainly snow and ice! Yes the season has had a very slow start on the East coast of Scotland this year due to the adverse conditions and i have been limited to a couple of training dives. However, the season started yesterday with a stupendous dive on the U12 in fantastic 10-15 metre visibility. I was out with Marine Quest taking advantage of a lul in the bad weather. We were rewarded for the effort with amazing conditions if somewhat cold with water temperatures hovering around 5 Celsius. So shiver me timbres and all that! I don't think my pictures have done justice to the dive but hopefully they will give you an idea of how good the dive was.

Another reason for the delay in my postings is that i have also been working on a big project that will come into fruition later in the year so please keep your eyes peeled to the site for further details appearing shortly.

Happy 2010

Hi All,
The Heavy snow and Ice have certainly curtailed diving activities over the festive period. I have managed to get some nice winter topside images though! The cold snap looks to be thawing now so hopefully i will be able to get back in the water soon. Anyway i hope you all have a great 2010 and please keep watching this space for all that is going on in diving around Scotland
